What are Scout Templates?
Scout Templates let you build standardized research prompts that can be applied across any company. Instead of asking Scout the same questions repeatedly, save your research workflow as a template, then apply it to any company with one click.
How templates work
Templates are collections of research instructions that Scout uses to analyze companies. You can create templates for:
Standard diligence questions - Your firm's core evaluation criteria
Sector-specific research - Tailored questions for fintech, healthcare, enterprise software, etc.
Stage-specific frameworks - Different questions for seed vs. growth companies
Role-specific needs - Templates for sourcing, diligence, portfolio monitoring
Create a template
Click the Scout icon on any company profile
Navigate to the Research tab
Enter your research instructions in the text field
Name your template (e.g., "First Touchpoint," "Series A Diligence," "Competitive Analysis")
Click "Save"
Template example:
Who are the founders and what have they built before?
What's their advantage vs competitors?
Why do customers choose them over alternatives?
How do they make money and is it sustainable?
How big is the market they're going after?
Using templates
Once saved, templates appear in your Scout interface. Simply select a template and Scout will execute all research instructions for the company you're viewing. You can:
Apply the same template across multiple companies for consistent evaluation
Edit templates as your research criteria evolve
Share templates across your team (coming soon)
Combine multiple templates for comprehensive analysis
Best practices
Keep instructions general - Avoid company-specific details so templates work across any company
Focus on repeatable questions - Templates work best for questions you ask about every company
Organize by workflow - Create separate templates for different stages (sourcing, diligence, monitoring)
Iterate and refine - Update templates based on which questions yield the most valuable insights
Manage templates
Edit or delete templates by clicking the three-dot menu next to any saved template. Changes to templates don't affect previously generated research.
