Filter groups allow you to construct more precise searches using nested AND/OR clauses within the Custom tab. The Custom tab is the legacy search builder, and we recommend you use the Overview, Sector, and Team filters whenever possible.

If you'd prefer to use the Custom tab, it is important to be aware of how the structure of filters will impact search results. In general, it is best practice to minimize the depth of filter groups.

Two related filters within the same group will return results where both filters need to be true of a single employee at a company.

  • Example: Current Company Role = Founder + Past Company = SpaceX in the same filter group means the Founder worked at SpaceX

Two filters in separate groups will return results where each filter is true but of multiple employees at a company. One filter is true of one employee and the other filter is true of a different employee.

  • Example: Current Company Role = Founder & separate filter group Past Company = SpaceX means anyone at that company worked at SpaceX

Examples

  1. Show me all companies that have employees that were previously at SpaceX and those same employees are now founders.

  2. Show me all companies that have employees that were previously at SpaceX and those same employees are now founders, but the company cannot be ByteDance or Tencent (via watchlist). Learn more about lists.

  3. Show me all companies that have raised at least $1 million and have Robotics in either their tag list or company keywords.
